How to find the perfect pair of jeans for body your type!
Every woman has one pair of go to jeans that seem to fit them perfectly. But what happens when those jeans go from perfectly broken in to just plain broken? Your favorite jeans are not an anomaly. You have merely stumbled upon a denim cut to match your individual body proportions. It is our goal here at Lunatic Shopper to put every woman into a pair of jeans that make them feel beautiful. The following guide is designed with each women’s unique body in mind.
Body Types
Body Type #1. Petite/Short:
Things to look for:
- A mid-rise jean gives the illusion of longer legs
- Look for your correct inseam size. Today’s jeans come in a variety of lengths. Correct inseam selection will prevent you from cutting off too much of a flare.
- Denim with a dark wash slims and elongates the leg.
- Boot Cut Jeans- These are a good choice because they take the focus away from leg length and are perfectly flattering over boot or heels to elevate your height.
- Skinny Jean- This jean is fitted at the ankle and accentuates the figure without affecting the appearance of your height.
Things to avoid:
- Stay away from cropped jeans. They have the potential to make the leg look shorter.
- Shy away from jeans with excessive leg distressing. Too much distressing can draw attention to a trouble spot.
- Baggy Jeans- The boyfriend jean is probably a fashion trend you should shy away from this season.

Here are a few jeans for this body type:
Things to look for:
- A jean that is low in the front and high in the back. This will help you avoid the dreaded gap in the back of the waistband and create a body-hugging silhouette.
- A leg opening about as wide as the thigh, this will help balance out your hips. A boot cut trouser of flare jean is our recommendation.
- Select a jean with back pocket embellishments or distressing on the backside. This will attract attention to the tush instead of the hips.
Things to avoid:
- Heavy distressing around the front pockets. Too much distressing in this front area will draw attention to and accentuate your hips.
- Jeans with side pockets- this will add unwanted inches to your hips.
- Tapered Jeans- Jeans that are tapered at the leg have the effect of accentuating full hips and thighs.

Body Type #4. Tummy
Things to look for:
- Denim with a dark wash- darker washes help hide flaws.
- Jeans with a touch of stretch- this will give you a little additional room and allow you to breathe a little easier.
- High or mid-rise jeans, this will pull your tummy up and in giving you a smother appearance across the waist.
Things to avoid:
- Jeans that are too high- It is important to find a jean that compliments your torso. Jeans that rise too high could draw attention to your tummy.
- Low-rise jeans- Low-rise jeans have the potential to create “muffin top.” A low fitted waist can leave your tummy hanging over the top of your jeans creating a less than desirable silhouette.

- James Jean Harold High Rise Trouser in Crystal
- James Jeans Humphrey High-Rise Flare in Crystal

Body Type #5. Wide Fuller Tush:
Things to look for:
- Trouser style jeans- This style denim provides extra room without looking baggy. Bigger is not better- form fitting is always more flattering
- Jeans with a dark wash- Darker washes help hide flaws
- Clean back pockets- This will balance your look and not draw additional attention to your backside. Bold stitching on back pockets draw attention to the backside. Less attention is always best
- Back pockets that fall in the middle of your tush- Pockets that are too high look unnatural. Those placed too low make your backside look longer and therefore bigger
- Rise- How far your jeans travel up your waist will control how large your tush looks in jeans. Look for mid-rise denim that fall approximately 2-inches below your belly button.
- Heavy embellishment or distressing on the back pockets- this will allow for a more balanced look without undo attention being placed on your tush
- No Pockets- This will draw additional attention to the rear
- No acid wash, stone wash, or faded denim is recommended- these will once again draw attention to your backside. Stay to dark washed denim whenever possible.
- Denim with horizontal Seams- Horizontal seaming produces a optical illusion making you appear wider than you are.
- Jeans with a tight tapered fit.
- Small back pockets- Small pockets will make your tush look large. Small pockets will look like regular pockets that seem small because the width of your backside is bigger.

Body Type #6. Flat Rear:
Things to look for:
- Jeans with flap pockets- this will add dimension and make your bum look instantly perky.
- Lightweight denim- Denim is a stiff material. When you put on a pair of jeans it can sometimes squish and flatten an already limited asset. Try lighter denim with a little stretch.
- Embellished Pockets- This includes contrast stitching or other design elements.
- A graduated waistband- this will boost the booty.
- Angled or smaller pockets- this creates the illusion of a larger behind.
- Jeans with no pockets- This will merely draw additional attention to your flat bum.
- Stretch Jeans in a heavy weight denim- these have the potential to flatten an already lacking asset.
- Distressed denim and lackluster pockets- these have the potential to drag the butt down.

Things to look for:

- Wearing low-rise, stretch jeans that hug the body- the contoured waistband can create curves.
- A higher rise- This choice in denim coupled with a bold belt will emphasize your waist, giving the illusion of a curvy figure.
- Pre-shaped hips and shaded pockets.
- Jeans that have been lightened at the thighs and knees- This can give the illusion of a curvier silhouette.
Things to avoid:
- Boyfriend Jeans- This style has the potential to make you look shapeless.
- Styles with loose waists- This style will emphasize a woman’s lack of curves.
